solitude becomes La Belle Shabine

* Belle was born Solitude on a slave ship in 1792.  Her mother raped by an unnamed white man.  The babe "fell" out -  another enslaved grabbed it to prevent from being smashed against the side of the rolling ship. released for daylight minutes for exercise on deck mother jumped overboard to freedom in the sea. in precious moments shared with her first born prior, she whispered hard "VIVRE", willing it to live. sure it was a tough decision to leave the babe behind but she felt she only had the power to dispose her own life, not another. The infant was named by those left SOLITUDE, "Alone" because she was from then on.

* Belle with high brown skin on the plantation grew, covetted and envied, raped and violated, and learned to be strong. She could love, and she could fight. A stint in the kitchen and then Parlor of the Great House gave her insight into Master's ways, but deep longing to return to earth, her people, and waves. Her mother called from the azure sea. Solitude lost her laughter, but found it again in the arms of friends. Solitude grew to cherish time alone honoring her name.

* At abolition in 1794, she walked through the mountains to join a Maroon community, and lived there for 8 years.

* When slavery was re-instated in 1802, She fought alongside Louis Delgre, a mulatto general who had defended France against England. He trained and armed her, and other ex-slaves.

* How did she die? More to the point how did she survive? The babe taken from her at birth, she was hung and thrown into the sea, where she joined her mother,  whispering VIVRE as she swam up to shore.

* La Belle Shabine reconfigured her existence inner and outer to be able to live.  VIVRE.  drawing on nature for her clothes and talismans, adornments as armour. for defense, her mask reflecting inner light.  clothed herself in natural beauty. she renounced violence, nothing living shall suffer. create a circle of defense from spirit force. build a cadre of allies around, human, animal, and from all of nature. THEN watch. wait. take the adversary by storm.
